Randomness...

FSE 2/13/10:

Stuka Jr./Valiente/Rush vs Okumura/Misterioso II/Dragon Rojo Jr.: Did I not just see this the week before? Rush is just not athletic. He'll never be a star. They will try to shove him down our throats. It won't work. Just bookmark this post and bring it up again in 3 or 4 years. I will be right as usual. By the numbers match.

Mistico/Hector Garza/Brazo De Plata vs GdA: What you'd expect. At least Garza seems to be having fun when Porky is on his team.

FSE 2/20/10:

Sagrado/Mascara Dorada/Metro vs Poder Mexica: Good video package before the match about the National Trios Champs. However they haven't teamed since they won the belts so... ummm... whatever. It's CMLL. We should expect this. Second fall of the match lasted... ready for this? 52 seconds. Yep. I know it was edited down to just the finish but it was still very annoying. Third fall had a fun dive by Dorada but entirely predictable finish. You would think the rudos beating 2 of the 3 champs would earn them a title shot or a match to earn a shot but... it's CMLL.

Hijo Del Fantasma vs Negro Casas: Was not a fan of this. I hate most matches with limbwork unless the limbs are actually sold throughout the match. Very rarely will you see this actually occur anywhere in the world. Case in point: First two falls were all about Casas' working Fantasma's arm. Third fall comes? Fantasma is using his arm for everything. And what does Negro do? He slaps on leg submissions. WHA THE WHA? Worst match of the year candidate. Didn't help that large chunks were edited out so we could see 5 minutes of hype + intros.

Pequeno Reyes Del Aire - 3/7/10 @ Arena Coliseo: Hell fucking yes! Not on the level of the 2008 match but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of the 2009 match which was beyond disapointing. This had some really fun spots as well as what I thought were breakout performances from Electrico and Pequeno Nitro who easily surpassed any of the older CMLL minis outside of Bam Bam and Pequeno Damian. Electrico nearly died on his assisted SFTD and Pequeno Nitro got huge air on his assisted somersault plancha. Bam Bam is just so smooth and fast that he reminds me of Ricky Marvin. Hopefully Bam Bam follows in Marvin's path and leaves for Japan once he realizes this CMLL gig is going nowhere. But hey... Dorada is gone now so who knows. Finishing stuff with the final four was really well done. It got *3* TV segments! Appeared unedited too.

Question of the day: Ricky Marvin - Most misused wrestler in the history of CMLL?

My Dos Leyendas predictions... (also testing to see if I can figure out how to time posts. If this works it should go up Friday morning.)

Angel De Oro/Fuego/Stuka Jr. vs Poder Mexica: Here's your obligatory two fall match where I assume the tecnicos will win by DQ when Angel De Oro's mask is yanked off. Should be a fun opener and with two falls they'll probably get to work a fun match instead of a by the numbers borefest. Poor Stuka Jr. stuck as a double champion of two titles that never get defended. Poor Poder Mexica who will surely only get a title shot as soon as CMLL decided to split them up.

Hijo Del Fantasma/Mascara Dorada/Valiente vs Mephisto/Terrible/Texano Jr.: Should be really fun with these six involved. Still think Vangelis should be in for Mephisto so next time the Japanese guys come over Vangelis teaming with Terrible/Texano won't have to be randomly done like it was a few months back. Maybe Mephisto is only there so Fantasmita can get revenge for the brutal superbomb two weeks ago. I assume both Dorada and Valiente will hit their big dives at the same time and Fantasma will go over Mephisto to end things.

Blue Panther/La Mascara/Super Porky vs Negro Casas/Ray Mendoza Jr./Taichi: Panther will probably get in some matwork with Casas and/or Mendoza before the match goes completely by the numbers. Gotta figure Mendoza low blows Porky or Panther for the DQ loss which will really be a win since the crowd wants to see him act like his dad. Maybe Villano III returns to annoy me? That reminds me of something Cubs said...

"Villano 5 is a dentist for sure. Not sure what 3 does."

Easy. He has terrible matches and bleeds a bunch. He's Necro Butcher Mexico! (Also smarks pretend they have good punches! EERIE!)

Hector Garza/Mr. Niebla/Maximo vs GdA: Keeping things light before the main event. Shocker would make sense here more than Garza both for the angle of teaming with Niebla and also opposing Rey Bucanero. But I totally agree with not having Shocker booked on a major show with his track record. Wouldn't be shocked if the rudos beat up Quemonito badly to set up something for the following week. Maybe a revancha or the match I suggested with Shocker subbing for Garza and everyone teaming up to defend Monito's honor. Dr. Lucha was right... the angle has been brilliant thus far. Hopefully it continues. (Also I can't believe nobody found it odd that Monito worked the Tuesday Arena Mex show. He hasn't worked a Tuesday shows in years.)

THE MAIN EVENT: I don't even know if I'm still clued in on these rules. So the first two who get pinned head to a mask match? Or the first two guys to score pins are eliminated leaving two to have a mask match? I'm sure the rules will change the night of the show so I'll just go with first two who score pins save their masks. i.e. - THIS IS A FOUR WAY - IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED AS SUCH. I'm probably overthinking this as usual with CMLL but here's how I see it going down...

- Volador pins Mistico

This leaves Sombra at a two-on-one disadvantage and also establishes that Volador can beat Mistico in a big match.

- Sombra pins Felino

In a perfect world this was the singles match that should have occured but this is the second best thing. Sombra pins Felino which sets the stage for his mask loss. He can take partial credit for unmasking Felino and thus winning the feud.

Mistico vs Felino - Mask vs Mask: Now you have the crowd all turn and cheer for Felino which turns Mistico into an even stronger rudo. Of course Mistico goes over in the end and takes Felino's mask which ends their feud (remember it? I swear it existed!) and puts a little doubt into the mind of certain fans who might think Mistico was given this win so he could lose to Volador in September.

So as I said... I've overanalyzed things. And my predictions tend to suck so watch Sombra take Mistico's mask...

...

okay, maybe not. Hoping to go at least .500 though.

Diamante vs Raziel - 3/5/10 @ Arena Mexico: Easily the worst Lightning Match ever. Not a good weekend for the Skayde students. First the Turbo/Thunder mess and now... whatever this was. I hate matches where you have insane match-ending dives within the first minute and naturally this had Diamante doing top-rope springboard corkscrew crushing Raziel. Why do that? How can you top that? You can't. They blew the next spot when they re-entered the ring and it was all downhill from there. Diamante missed a SFTD (intentionally) and got rammed into the ringpost. Raziel then screwed up whatever dive he was trying and Diamante had to do a dive to cover it. They did some more awkward in-ring stuff and finally finished things with a great looking spot (wheelbarrow driver off the top) but it was too late to save this mess.

Fabian El Gitano/Leono vs Puma King/Tiger Kid - 3/7/10 @ Arena Coliseo: Perfectly acceptable tag match and a fine way to start a feud. It's just a shame CMLL chose these tecnicos to do something with. The rudos were great as you'd expect and completely carried things. Curious to see where they go with this.

Rush/Mascara Dorada/Toscano vs Terrible/Texano Jr./Vangelis - 3/7/10 @ Arena Coliseo: By the numbers. Toscano is clearly the worst wrestler in the world. I dare anyone to show me someone worse.

However the match of the day did not come from Mexico. It came from Japan as I watched Super Shisa vs K-ness. Awesome little match and highly reccomended. The submissions exchanged mid-match were fantastic!
